Chocolate Hazelnut Bars (Easy Holiday Recipe)

Ingredients

FOR THE HAZELNUT BARS

  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tap vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tap baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt

FOR CHOCOLATE BUTTERCREAM FROSTING

  • ½ cup butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • ½ cups cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp milk
  • 12 Ferrero Rocher Pralines
  • Crushed hazelnuts

Instructions

  •  Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Spray and line a 9x9” pan with nonstick spray and parchment paper.
  • In the bowl of a stand mixer, cream the butter and sugars until creamy. Then add the egg, vanilla extract, and milk and beat again.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. 
  • Slowly add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture until a soft dough forms.
  • Press the dough evenly in the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for 14-15 minutes, ensuring you don’t over bake.
  • While bars are baking, make the icing by creaming together the butter, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract and milk. 
  • Allow bars to cool, then frost with the chocolate buttercream icing. 
  • Add whole Ferrero Rocher Pralines around the outside of the bars, and finish by sprinkling them with crushed hazelnuts around the sides. Cut into 16 bars and enjoy!
