Ingredients

  • ¾ cup Butter Flavor Crisco shortening softened
  • 1 ¼ cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 ⅓ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped nuts optional

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Prepare to fill your kitchen with the irresistible aroma of baking cookies.
  • In a large bowl using an electric mixer, whip shortening and brown sugar. Then add in egg, vanilla extract and milk. Cream until light and fluffy.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking soda and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  • The star of the show – fold in the semisweet chocolate chips (because, let's be honest, there's no such thing as too many chocolate chips). If you're a fan of nuts, toss in chopped nuts for that extra crunch.
  • Drop rounded tablespoons of cookie dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet using a medium cookie scoop. Bake in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden brown around the edges. Watch them closely to achieve your preferred level of chewiness.
  • Allow the cookies to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheets before transferring them to a wire rack. But who are we kidding? Warm crisp cookies straight from the oven are a temptation hard to resist.

Notes

  • Storage: airtight container at room temperature for about a week, separated with parchment. Refrigerate if your kitchen is warm. Bring to room temperature before serving.
  • Freeze baked cookies wrapped individually or in a freezer bag, then thaw at room temperature.
  • Freeze the dough: shape into balls, freeze on a sheet, then bag. Bake from frozen, adding a minute or two.
