Ingredients

  • 2 frozen tilapia fillets
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F for 3–5 minutes. Starting with a fully preheated air fryer means the fish starts cooking immediately rather than slowly coming up to temperature — better texture on the outside.
  • Quick rinse (optional but recommended). Run the frozen fillets under cold water for 20–30 seconds to remove the ice glaze. Pat dry with paper towel. This step helps the seasoning actually stick to the fish instead of sliding off the icy surface. Worth the extra 60 seconds.
  • Spray the basket lightly with cooking spray, then place the fillets in a single layer. No overlapping — the air needs to circulate around each piece.
  • Spray the top of the fillets with a light coating of olive oil or avocado oil spray, then season generously with the garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Add a thin lemon slice on top of each fillet if you want an extra hit of brightness while it cooks.
  • Air fry at 375°F for 12–15 minutes, flipping at the halfway mark (6–7 minutes). The tilapia is done when the flesh is opaque throughout and flakes easily when pressed with a fork. Internal temperature should read 145°F.
  • Squeeze fresh lemon over the fillets the moment they come out. Serve immediately.

Notes

Timing note: Fillet thickness varies. Thinner fillets (under ½ inch) may be done at 10–12 minutes. Thicker fillets need the full 14–15. Check at 12 minutes and add time if needed — you're looking for opaque flesh that flakes apart easily with a fork.
