This Homemade Dunkaroo Dip Recipe is one of the best dessert dips you will ever taste. Perfect to bring to birthday parties, a baby shower, or any other special occasion where you want to bring a fun recipe.

Dunkaroo dip was absolutely one of my favorite childhood snacks. I used to eat a container everyday in elementary school.

Like is there really anything better than funfetti cake batter dip beside animal crackers in a little blue container? It was 10/10 always the best part of my lunch kit.

I’m aware this wasn’t the most healthy option, but it was such a popular snack back then. As I grew up I started seeing remakes of homemade dunkaroo dip on social media and I knew I had to recreate a version for myself.

Since original dunkaroos are discontinued, and there is no way my future child isn’t trying them in their life, I figured why not create my own cake batter dip recipe.

All you need is a large bowl, raw cake mix, cool whip, vanilla yogurt, your favorite sprinkles, and your favorite dippers. The ingredient list is very minimal and I swear to you, it makes the perfect dip.

I have brought this recipe over to a birthday party in the past, and to say it was a hit would be an understatement. It brought everyone back to the late 1990s and early 2000s when Dunkaroo Dip was still being made.

Everyone who has tried this dip has absolutely loved it, so I can guarantee your whole family will too!

I hope you and your kids become just as obsessed with this recipe as I am, enjoy!

INGREDIENTS FOR THE HOMEMADE DUNKAROO DIP

You will need the following ingredients listed below to make this funfetti dip recipe (the exact measurements and full recipe are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post):

  • A box of funfetti cake mix – can also use white cake mix as long as you add a tsp of vanilla extract. I used Betty Crocker.
  • Light cool whip – not necessary to use light but it will make the entire recipe a bit lighter.
  • Vanilla yogurt – can opt for vegan yogurt to make this a vegan dunkaroo dip.
  • Optional – rainbow sprinkles, cream cheese, chocolate chips, etc.

TIPS FOR MAKING THE CLASSIC DUNKAROO CAKE BATTER DIP

I recommend using regular vanilla yogurt over vanilla greek yogurt. The greek yogurt makes the batter VERY thick and almost sticky.

If you’re worried about the potential harmful bacteria in the raw flour, you can heat treat it. Spread it out on a baking sheet and bake at 350F for 5 minutes.

The sprinkles may become less vibrant in color, so if you do decide to heat treat the dry cake mix, you may want to add extra sprinkles afterwards.

When stirring in the sprinkles, be careful not to over stir them. The colors may bleed out, you want to VERY gently stir them until just mixed in.

You can use the other half of the funfetti cake mix to make cupcakes, or you can double this recipe to use it all up. I find that doubling the recipe yields way too much dip, but you can freeze it if you choose.

DO YOU HAVE TO CHILL THE DIP BEFORE EATING?

Yes, I highly recommend you giving it enough time to chill. The recipe needs time to chill and set, otherwise it may become too runny and melted.

I recommend at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator but you can use your best judgment.

STORING AND FREEZING THE CAKE MIX DIP

Store leftover cake batter dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. Enjoy cold with your favorite dippers.

If you use additional sprinkles the colors may bleed into the dip and change it’s color. I recommend waiting to add the sprinkles until you’re ready to serve.

You can freeze this dunkaroo dip recipe for up to 3 months in the freezer. To serve, let thaw in fridge overnight or at room temperature before enjoying!
