Knorr Spinach Dip Recipe (The Classic Cold Dip)
This Knorr spinach dip recipe is the cold, creamy party dip everyone hunts for since it left the package. Five ingredients, no cooking, and it disappears bread bowl and all.

This is the dip that vanishes before I’ve even set the crackers down. Knorr spinach dip is the cold, creamy party dip made by stirring frozen spinach, sour cream, mayo, and a packet of Knorr Vegetable Recipe Mix together, then chilling it until the flavors set.
Knorr quietly stopped printing the recipe on the box years ago, and people have been hunting for it ever since, so here’s the version I’ve been making for every game day and potluck I can remember.
The yellow packet does the heavy lifting. It’s technically a soup mix, but everyone buys it for one reason, and that reason is this dip. Five ingredients, no cooking, and it’s gone bread bowl and all.
If dips are your thing, I’ve also got a Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Dip and a Pepperoni Pizza Dip that go just as fast.

Ingredients You’ll Need
- Frozen spinach and fresh spinach โ the base. Thaw it and squeeze it bone dry, or the dip turns watery. I like adding a couple handfuls of fresh spinach too for color and bite.
- Sour cream โ full-fat keeps it thick and creamy. Low-fat works, but the dip won’t be as rich.
- Mayonnaise โ regular mayo, not light. It’s half of what makes it creamy.
- Knorr Vegetable Recipe Mix โ the star. It’s a dried blend of carrots, onions, celery, leeks, and garlic, and it’s the whole flavor of the dip. You’ll see it labeled soup mix, same thing.
- Water chestnuts โ drained and chopped. These are the crunch, and they’re what makes it taste like the real one. Find them in the international aisle.

How to Make Knorr Spinach Dip
- Thaw and dry the spinach. Thaw the frozen spinach (a quick zap in the microwave speeds it up), then squeeze out every bit of water with paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. This step is the difference between creamy and watery.
- Chop the add-ins. Chop the spinach small and dice the water chestnuts into little pieces.
- Mix. Combine the spinach, sour cream, mayo, Knorr mix, and water chestnuts in a large bowl and stir until evenly blended.
- Chill. Cover and refrigerate for 2 to 3 hours so the flavors come together and the dried veggies in the mix rehydrate.
- Serve. Give it a stir and serve cold with your dippers of choice.

Tips for the Best Spinach Dip
- Squeeze the spinach dry. Watery dip almost always comes down to spinach that wasn’t drained enough, so really wring it out.
- Chop the water chestnuts small. Little pieces mean you get that crunch in every scoop instead of the odd big bite.
- Cook the spinach if you prefer. Frozen spinach packages recommend cooking before eating, so you can heat it per the directions, then cool and squeeze, if that’s your preference.
Variations to Try
- Spinach artichoke dip. Stir in a can of drained, chopped artichoke hearts. A splash of Worcestershire and a pinch of red pepper flakes takes it up too.
- Hot baked version. Mix in shredded mozzarella, spread it in a baking dish, top with more cheese, and bake at 350ยฐF until bubbly and golden.
- Extra veggies. Add chopped green onions, or swap in pulsed broccoli or bell peppers for a different crunch.

What to Serve With Knorr Spinach Dip
The classic move is a hollowed-out sourdough bread bowl with the torn bread for dipping. You can do the same inside a bell pepper, or just use a regular bowl.
For dippers, I go with crackers, sourdough chunks, and a big plate of veggies like carrots, celery, and red peppers. The dip is naturally low in carbs on its own, so if you’re watching them, pair it with veggie sticks, pork rinds, or cheese crisps.
Storing and Make-Ahead
This dip actually gets better with time, so make it the night before if you can. Store it in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 5 days.
If it looks a little watery after sitting, that’s just the dried veggies releasing moisture, so give it a stir before serving. I don’t recommend freezing it, since the sour cream and mayo go grainy when thawed.
Knorr Spinach Dip FAQs
Is Knorr spinach dip gluten-free? No. The Knorr Vegetable Recipe Mix contains a small amount of barley, which has gluten. If you need it gluten-free, you’d have to build the seasoning blend yourself, since the packet is what makes this dip what it is.
Can I use Greek yogurt to make it lighter? Yes. Swap the sour cream for an equal amount of thick, plain Greek yogurt. It’ll be a little tangier and not quite as rich, but it lightens things up and adds protein.
Can I use fresh spinach instead of frozen? You can. Use about a pound of fresh spinach in place of the frozen.
