Dunkaroo Dip (Easy Funfetti Cake Batter Dip)
This Dunkaroo dip is the easy 3-ingredient funfetti cake batter dip that tastes exactly like the lunchbox snack you remember. Perfect for birthday parties, baby showers, or honestly, eating straight out of the bowl.

If you grew up trading lunch snacks for those little blue Dunkaroo boxes, you already know. I used to eat one every single day in elementary school. The cookies were fine, but it was always about that frosting dip.
Dunkaroo dip is a no-bake dessert dip made with funfetti cake mix, Cool Whip, and vanilla yogurt. It tastes just like the original frosting dip from the 90s โ sweet, fluffy, and loaded with sprinkles. The whole thing comes together in 5 minutes.
I’ve made this dozens of times for parties, baby showers, and lazy Sunday afternoons when I just want to feel 8 years old again. Every single time, someone asks for the recipe before they leave. It’s that good.

Why You’ll Love This Dunkaroo Dip
- 3 simple ingredients โ funfetti cake mix, Cool Whip, vanilla yogurt. That’s it.
- No-bake, no fuss โ comes together in one bowl in 5 minutes flat
- Tastes like the original โ same nostalgic funfetti frosting flavor, but better
- Crowd-pleaser โ kids and adults both go wild for it
- Easy to scale โ double it for parties or keep it small for snacking

Ingredients for Dunkaroo Dip
You’ll need these ingredients to make this funfetti dip recipe (exact measurements are in the recipe card at the bottom):
- Funfetti cake mix โ the base of the whole dip. I use Betty Crocker. You can swap in white cake mix if you add a teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Light Cool Whip โ keeps it fluffy and a little lighter. Regular Cool Whip works too if that’s what you have.
- Vanilla yogurt โ use regular vanilla yogurt, not Greek. Greek yogurt makes the dip thick and sticky.
- Rainbow sprinkles โ optional but encouraged. Add them last so the colors don’t bleed.

How to Heat Treat Cake Mix
Raw cake mix contains raw flour, which can carry harmful bacteria. The fix takes 5 minutes and gives you total peace of mind.
To heat treat cake mix in the oven: spread it in an even layer on a baking sheet and bake at 350ยฐF for 5 minutes. Let it cool completely before mixing it into the dip.
To heat treat in the microwave: add the cake mix to a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until it reaches 165ยฐF (usually 1โ2 minutes total).
The sprinkles in the cake mix may lose some color when heated, so add extra rainbow sprinkles to the dip afterward.
How to Make Dunkaroo Dip
- Combine the base. In a large mixing bowl, add the cake mix, Cool Whip, and vanilla yogurt.
- Stir until smooth. Use a wooden spoon or spatula and mix until fully combined with no lumps.
- Chill the dip. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes โ this is what sets the texture.
- Add sprinkles and serve. Gently fold in extra sprinkles just before serving so the colors stay vibrant.

What to Serve With Dunkaroo Dip
- Animal crackers (the classic)
- Vanilla wafers
- Teddy Grahams
- Graham crackers
- Pretzels
- Fresh strawberries, apple slices, or banana
Tips for the Best Dunkaroo Dip
- Use regular vanilla yogurt, not Greek. Greek yogurt makes the dip too thick and almost sticky.
- Chill it at least 30 minutes before serving. This is what gives it that thick, scoopable texture.
- Add sprinkles last. If you mix them in too early, the colors bleed and the dip turns gray-ish.
- Use half the box of cake mix for the recipe as written. If you want to double it, use the full box plus double the yogurt and Cool Whip.
- Save the rest of the cake mix for cupcakes, cake pops, or another batch of dip later in the week.

Storage & Freezing
Refrigerator: store leftover Dunkaroo dip in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week. The sprinkles may bleed into the dip over time and change the color, so I recommend adding sprinkles just before serving each time.
Freezer: you can freeze Dunkaroo dip for up to 3 months in an airtight container. Let it thaw in the fridge overnight or on the counter before serving.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you eat raw cake mix? Raw cake mix contains raw flour, which can carry bacteria. Heat treat the cake mix first by baking it at 350ยฐF for 5 minutes or microwaving in 30-second intervals until it reaches 165ยฐF.
What’s the difference between Dunkaroo dip and funfetti dip? They’re essentially the same recipe. “Dunkaroo dip” is named after the 90s lunchbox snack with cookies and frosting dip. “Funfetti cake batter dip” refers to the same dip by its main ingredient. Same recipe, different names.
Do you have to chill Dunkaroo dip before serving? Yes. Chill it for at least 30 minutes in the fridge. The dip needs time to set, otherwise it stays runny and won’t hold sprinkles or hold up on a cracker.
Can you make Dunkaroo dip ahead of time? Yes โ make it up to 24 hours ahead and store covered in the fridge. Add sprinkles just before serving so the colors stay bright.
How long does Dunkaroo dip last in the fridge? Stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, Dunkaroo dip lasts up to 1 week. The sprinkles will slowly bleed color into the dip after day 2 or 3, so it’ll look less vibrant but still taste great.
