The bacon bastes the chicken as it cooks, which is why this method gives you juicy chicken every time (chicken breast is famously easy to overcook and dry out in an air fryer โ€” bacon solves that).

  • Boneless skinless chicken breasts โ€” medium-sized (about 6โ€“8 oz each) work best. If yours are thicker, pound them slightly so they cook evenly without drying out.
  • Bacon โ€” I prefer thick-cut for richer flavor and better browning. Thin-cut crisps faster if that’s what you have on hand. Three strips per breast gives you full coverage.
  • Paprika โ€” for color and warmth. Smoked paprika works too and adds a deeper flavor.
  • Garlic powder โ€” the workhorse seasoning here.
  • Salt and pepper โ€” go light on the salt since the bacon adds plenty.
  • Optional add-ons: cayenne for heat, onion powder, or a brush of BBQ sauce, honey mustard, or sweet chili sauce in the last minute of cooking.

How to Make Air Fryer Bacon Wrapped Chicken

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400ยฐF. Spray the basket with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Mix the seasoning. Combine the paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a small bowl.
  3. Prep the chicken. Pat both sides of the chicken breasts dry with paper towel โ€” wet chicken steams instead of browning. If your breasts are uneven, pound the thicker side flat. Rub all over with the seasoning.
  4. Wrap with bacon. Use 3 strips per breast, slightly overlapping. Tuck the ends underneath the chicken so they don’t unravel mid-cook.
  5. Air fry. Place chicken in the basket in a single layer, seam side down. Cook 15 minutes, then check.
  6. Finish cooking. Continue air frying another 10 minutes, or until the internal temperature hits 165ยฐF at the thickest part.
  7. Rest 3โ€“5 minutes before slicing โ€” this keeps the juices in the chicken instead of all over the cutting board. Serve.

Tips for the Best Results

  1. Pat the chicken dry before seasoning. Wet chicken means the seasoning slides off and the bacon doesn’t sear properly.
  2. Tuck bacon ends underneath. This is the #1 way to keep your bacon from unraveling. Don’t bother with toothpicks unless your bacon is really stubborn โ€” the weight of the chicken holds it.
  3. Don’t overcrowd the basket. Two breasts per batch max. Airflow is what makes the bacon crispy. Pack them in and you’ll get steamed bacon instead of crisp.
  4. Use a meat thermometer. Air fryers vary wildly. Pull the chicken at 165ยฐF at the thickest part โ€” guessing is the #1 reason chicken comes out dry.
  5. Want extra-crispy bacon? After the chicken hits 160ยฐF internal, blast the air fryer to 400ยฐF for 1 final minute. Pulls the bacon from “cooked” to “really crispy” without overcooking the chicken inside.

Variations

  • Spicy: Add cayenne or red pepper flakes to the rub
  • Saucy: Brush BBQ sauce, sweet chili, or honey garlic on the chicken in the last minute of cooking
  • Cheesy: Top with shredded cheddar or Swiss in the final minute and let it melt
  • Stuffed: Butterfly the chicken and stuff with cream cheese + spinach before wrapping in bacon
  • Cajun: Swap paprika and garlic powder for 1 tbsp of Cajun seasoning

How to Store and Reheat

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat in the air fryer at 375ยฐF for 5 minutes โ€” this is the only reheat method that keeps the bacon crispy. Microwave makes the bacon rubbery.
  • Freezing: Not recommended. The bacon texture suffers when thawed.

Ingredients 

  • 2 chicken breasts boneless skinless
  • 6 pieces bacon
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • salt & pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat air fryer to 400F, then spray basket with non stick cooking spray.
  • Mix all the seasonings together in a small bowl and set aside.
  • Pound each piece of chicken slightly so they’re even in thickness. Then dry both sides of the raw chicken with paper towel and rub with the seasoning.
  • Wrap each chicken breast with 3 pieces of bacon. Ensure you keep the ends of the bacon on the bottom of the chicken breast.
  • Place the chicken in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Air fry for 15 minutes then check the internal temperature using a meat thermometer.
  • Air fry for another 10 minutes or until the internal temperature has reached 165F.
