How To Cook Frozen Italian Sausage In The Air Fryer
Frozen Italian sausage cooked straight from the freezer to juicy, golden-brown perfection in the air fryer โ no thawing required. Ready in under 30 minutes with one ingredient.

Cooking frozen Italian sausage in the air fryer takes about 25 minutes start to finish at 375ยฐF โ no thawing required. The hot circulating air gives you a crispy golden-brown exterior while keeping the inside juicy, with way less mess than the stovetop.
This is my go-to weeknight protein when I forgot to thaw something. Frozen straight from the freezer, into the air fryer basket, and onto the plate in under 30 minutes. Slice into pasta, stuff into a sub roll, or serve with peppers and onions โ Italian sausage works for almost any dinner.

What You’ll Need
(Full details in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.)
- Frozen Italian sausage links โ mild, hot, or sweet all work. Pork is the most common, but Italian chicken sausage or turkey sausage work too. Breakfast sausage links cook similarly (just adjust the time).
- Olive oil cooking spray โ optional. Helps prevent sticking and gives a slight extra crisp.
- Optional seasonings โ Italian seasoning, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, or fennel seed if you want to amp up the flavor.

How to Cook Frozen Italian Sausage in the Air Fryer
- Preheat your air fryer to 375ยฐF. If your model doesn’t require preheating, skip this step.
- Spray the basket with a light coat of cooking spray (optional but helps with cleanup).
- If sausages are frozen together in a block, run the package under warm water for 30-60 seconds to loosen them. They don’t need to fully thaw โ just separate.
- Place the frozen sausages in the air fryer basket in a single layer, not touching. Cook in batches if your air fryer is small.
- Cook for 14-17 minutes, then flip the sausages over.
- Cook another 10-15 minutes until golden brown on the outside.
- Check the internal temperature โ sausage is fully cooked at 160ยฐF. Use a meat thermometer for accuracy. They’ll keep cooking from residual heat, so pulling at 160ยฐF is safe.
- Rest for 2-3 minutes before slicing. This keeps the juices in the sausage instead of on the cutting board.
Frozen vs Thawed: Cook Times
- From frozen: 24-32 minutes total at 375ยฐF
- From thawed: 12-15 minutes total at 375ยฐF
- Pre-cooked sausage (just reheating): 8-10 minutes at 375ยฐF
Different brands and sausage sizes affect timing. Thicker sausages need a few extra minutes. Check internal temperature instead of going by time alone โ air fryers vary widely.

Tips for the Best Results
- Don’t overcrowd the basket. Single layer with space between sausages โ overcrowding causes uneven cooking and prevents the outside from getting that crisp.
- Flip halfway through. This is what gives you golden-brown color on all sides.
- Use a meat thermometer. Air fryers vary wildly in cooking time. Internal temp of 160ยฐF is what matters, not the timer.
- Loosen frozen sausages first. Run the package under warm water for 30-60 seconds if the sausages are frozen together. They don’t need to fully thaw โ just enough to separate.
- Rest before slicing. A 2-3 minute rest lets the juices redistribute. Cut too soon and you lose half the flavor to the cutting board.
- Add peppers and onions for a one-pan meal. Toss sliced bell peppers and onions with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Add them to the basket under the sausages for a complete dinner in one go.

Ways to Serve
Italian sausage is one of the most versatile proteins in your freezer. A few favorite ways to use it:
- Sausage and peppers โ sautรฉ with bell peppers and onions, serve over pasta or in a sub roll
- Pasta night โ slice and toss into marinara with pasta, or mix into a baked ziti
- Breakfast scramble โ slice and add to scrambled eggs with veggies and cheese
- Pizza topping โ slice and use as a topping on homemade or store-bought pizza
- Sub sandwich โ split, top with marinara and melted mozzarella, broil briefly
- Low-carb โ serve sliced over sautรฉed cabbage or in lettuce wraps with mustard
- Soup โ slice into Italian wedding soup, minestrone, or any tomato-based soup
How to Store and Reheat
- Fridge: Store cooked sausages in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
- Reheat in the air fryer at 360ยฐF for 3-5 minutes until heated through. Microwave works in 60-90 seconds but the texture suffers slightly.
- Freezer: Cooked sausages freeze well for up to 2-3 months. Cool completely, then freeze in a single layer before transferring to a freezer-safe bag.
- Reheat from frozen โ air fryer at 360ยฐF for 6-8 minutes, or microwave for 2-3 minutes.
How To Cook Frozen Italian Sausage In The Air Fryer
Ingredients
- 1 package frozen Italian sausages
Instructions
- Preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees fahrenheit.
- Place the frozen Italian sausage links in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Make sure they're not touching to ensure even cooking. You might have to cook in batches depending on the size of your air fryer.
- Cook for about 14-17 minutes, then flip the sausages over. Continue to cook for another 10-15 minutes. The total cook time will depend on your air fryer model and the size of the sausages.
- You'll know the sausages are done when they have a nice, golden-brown exterior and the internal temperature reaches 160ยฐF (71ยฐC). I always recommend using a meat thermometer to check for doneness โ food safety first, lovelies!
- Once cooked, remove the sausages from the air fryer and let them rest for a couple of minutes. This helps the juices redistribute, making your sausages even more flavorful.
