The creamiest Ninja Creami birthday cake protein ice cream with 39g of protein per pint and only 342 calories. Tastes like funfetti cake batter and ready in 5 minutes of active time.

A Ninja Creami birthday cake protein ice cream is a high-protein homemade ice cream made with Fairlife milk, birthday cake protein powder, vanilla pudding mix, almond extract, and rainbow sprinkles. The almond extract is the secret โ€” it’s what gives you that nostalgic funfetti cake batter flavor instead of a regular vanilla protein ice cream.

This is a tweak on my Ninja Creami Vanilla Protein Ice Cream base โ€” same base recipe, two extra ingredients (almond extract + sprinkles), and a totally different flavor experience.

Ingredients You’ll Need

(Full measurements in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.)

  • Fairlife 2% milk โ€” pushes the protein up to 39g per pint without piling on calories. Fairlife has 14g of protein per cup. Skim or whole Fairlife works too โ€” higher fat = creamier ice cream.
  • Unsweetened almond milk โ€” keeps the calorie count balanced. Cashew milk, oat milk, or coconut milk also work.
  • Birthday cake protein powder โ€” I use 1UP Nutrition Birthday Cake protein powder (code BAILS saves 20% on everything). Vanilla protein powder works too โ€” just lean a little harder on the almond extract.
  • Vanilla instant pudding mix โ€” the secret to creamy, not icy. Sugar-free works the same. Only 1 tbsp.
  • Almond extract โ€” this is the flavor unlock. The combination of vanilla protein + almond extract is what makes this taste like actual birthday cake batter instead of regular protein ice cream. Don’t skip it.
  • Rainbow sprinkles โ€” added at the mix-in stage so they stay intact. The cheap waxy kind actually works better here โ€” they hold their shape and don’t bleed color.

How to Make Ninja Creami Birthday Cake Protein Ice Cream

  1. Add everything except the sprinkles to the pint. Combine the Fairlife milk, almond milk, protein powder, pudding mix, and almond extract in the Ninja Creami pint up to the max fill line.
  2. Mix until smooth. Use a handheld milk frother (or immersion blender) to fully combine. Protein powder clumps mess with the texture โ€” take an extra 20 seconds here.
  3. Freeze 24 hours. Keep the pint flat in your freezer. A domed top can damage the blade.
  4. Run under hot water. Once frozen solid, run the outside of the pint under hot water for 60โ€“90 seconds before loading.
  5. First spin: Lite Ice Cream. Powdery is normal.
  6. Re-spin. This is where the texture goes silky. Re-spin again if needed.
  7. Add sprinkles and mix in. Make a hole in the center, drop in the sprinkles, hit Mix-In. Scoop and eat.

Tips for the Best Texture

  1. Always re-spin if it looks crumbly. First spin = powdery. Second spin = creamy. Don’t add liquid and panic โ€” re-spin first.
  2. Use Fairlife. Regular milk works, but Fairlife is what unlocks the high protein number with the creamy texture.
  3. Don’t overfill. Stay below the max fill line. Overfilling = mess + ruined texture.
  4. Add sprinkles at the mix-in stage, not before freezing. If you add them to the base, the color will bleed and you’ll get a muddy-looking ice cream instead of clean funfetti.
  5. Short on time? Skip the wait, change the buttons. If you only froze 12โ€“16 hours, skip Re-spin entirely. After Lite Ice Cream, go straight to Mix-In. This stops a half-frozen base from getting overworked and soupy.

Mix-In Variations

  • Funfetti cookie: Crumble half a Lofthouse-style sugar cookie or 1 Pop Tart on top of the sprinkles
  • Birthday cake batter: Drizzle 1 tbsp sugar-free frosting through the ice cream before the mix-in spin
  • Cake pop: Crumble 2 tbsp of leftover vanilla cake into the mix-in
  • Strawberry shortcake: Swap almond extract for vanilla extract, add a swirl of strawberry jam after spinning
  • Dairy-free: Use full coconut milk in place of the Fairlife and a plant-based vanilla protein powder. Texture will be slightly less creamy but still really good.
  • Lower calorie: Use Fairlife skim instead of 2% โ€” drops the calories by ~30 per pint without changing the protein count.

Notes

Can use code BAILS at checkout to save 20% on all 1UP Nutrition products and for Birthday Cake protein powder.
You can use Fairlife skim milk in this recipe instead. Keep in mind the higher in fat the milk = richer, smoother, dreamier ice cream.
You don’t necessarily have to wait the full 24 hours of freezing time. Yes, waiting the full 24 hours will give you the best, most consistent results. But if you only froze it for 12-16 hours and youโ€™re desperate for a frozen treat, youโ€™re not out of luck. Skip the respin button and instead, hit the Mix-Ins button after the Lite Ice Cream cycle. This prevents the ice cream from getting overworked and soupy, which can happen when the base hasnโ€™t fully solidified.
If your ice cream comes out powdery or crumbly after the first spin, instead of immediately reaching for the milk, try hitting the respin button first. More often than not, thatโ€™s all you need to get it creamy.
