Ninja Creami Vanilla Protein Ice Cream Recipe

The creamiest Ninja Creami vanilla protein ice cream with 35g of protein per pint. Made with Fairlife milk, vanilla protein powder, and one secret ingredient that keeps it from getting icy.

Thick, creamy, and 35g of protein in 281 calories per pint โ€” this is the recipe I make weekly and the base every other Ninja Creami flavor on my blog starts from. The sugar-free pudding mix is the trick that stops protein ice cream from turning out icy or chalky.

Once you nail this base, you can turn it into birthday cake, cookies and cream, peanut butter cup, or anything else. If you love this, try my Cookies and Cream Protein Ice Cream or Peanut Butter Cup Protein Ice Cream next.

Ingredients You’ll Need

(Full measurements in the recipe card at the bottom of the post.)

  • Fairlife 2% milk โ€” this is what unlocks the high protein number. Fairlife is ultra-filtered, so it packs 14g of protein per cup with less sugar than regular milk. Skim or whole Fairlife also work โ€” the higher the fat, the creamier your ice cream.
  • Unsweetened almond milk โ€” keeps the calorie count down while adding volume. Sub with unsweetened coconut milk, oat milk, or cashew milk if you prefer.
  • Vanilla protein powder โ€” I use PEScience Gourmet Vanilla (code BAILEY at checkout saves you on all products). Any whey or whey-casein blend works. Plant-based proteins work too but the texture is slightly less creamy.
  • Sugar-free vanilla instant pudding mix โ€” this is the secret ingredient. The pudding mix acts as a stabilizer and stops your ice cream from getting icy. You only need 1 tbsp.
  • Vanilla extract โ€” boosts the vanilla flavor so your protein powder doesn’t have to do all the work.
  • Pinch of salt โ€” balances the sweetness and brings the flavors forward. Don’t skip it.

How to Make Ninja Creami Vanilla Protein Ice Cream

  1. Add everything to the pint. Combine the Fairlife milk, almond milk, protein powder, pudding mix, vanilla extract, and salt directly in the Ninja Creami pint container, up to the max fill line.
  2. Mix until smooth. Use a handheld milk frother (or immersion blender) to fully combine everything. Make sure the protein powder is fully dissolved โ€” clumps will mess with the texture.
  3. Freeze 24 hours. Place the pint flat in your freezer with the lid on for a full 24 hours. The flat surface is critical โ€” a domed top can damage the blade.
  4. Run under hot water. Once frozen solid, run the outside of the pint under hot water for 60-90 seconds before installing into the machine.
  5. First spin: Lite Ice Cream. Press the Lite Ice Cream button. The ice cream will look crumbly and powdery โ€” this is normal, not a fail.
  6. Re-spin. Hit the Re-spin button. This is where the magic happens โ€” the texture turns silky and creamy. If still powdery, re-spin one more time.
  7. Add mix-ins (optional). Make a small hole in the center, add your mix-ins, and hit the Mix-In button. Scoop and enjoy.

Helpful Ninja Creami Tips

  1. Always re-spin if it looks crumbly. The first spin almost always comes out powdery. That’s normal โ€” the second spin is where it gets creamy. Don’t add milk and panic on the first spin.
  2. Use Fairlife for the best texture. Regular milk works, but Fairlife is what gives you the high protein number and the creamy texture. It’s worth the swap.
  3. Don’t fill above the max line. The ice cream expands when it spins. Overfilling will spill into the machine and ruin the texture.
  4. Pre-chop your mix-ins. Whatever you’re adding (Oreos, cookies, chocolate), break it into small pieces before using the Mix-In button so it distributes evenly.
  5. Skip the wait if you’re desperate. A full 24 hours is best, but 12-16 hours works in a pinch. After the Lite Ice Cream spin, hit Mix-In instead of Re-spin โ€” this prevents the ice cream from getting overworked and soupy when the base hasn’t fully solidified.

Mix-In Ideas and Variations

This vanilla base is built for variations. A few of my favorites:

  • Birthday Cake: Add ยผ tsp almond extract before freezing + rainbow sprinkles after spinning
  • Cookies & Cream: Crush 2-3 Oreos and use the Mix-In button after the first spin
  • Caramel Swirl: Drizzle sugar-free caramel sauce in the center and use Mix-In
  • Berry Vanilla: Blend ยฝ cup frozen raspberries or strawberries into the base before freezing
  • Chocolate Chip: Stir in 2 tbsp mini dark chocolate chips after the first spin
  • Cinnamon Roll: Add ยฝ tsp cinnamon to the base + swirl sugar-free icing after spinning
  • Peanut Butter Cup: Swirl in 1 tbsp PB and chopped Reese’s after spinning

How to Store and Re-Spin Leftovers

If you don’t finish the full pint in one sitting (which is fair โ€” it’s a lot of ice cream), here’s how to save it:

  • Smooth the top. Use a spoon to level out the remaining ice cream so the surface is flat. A domed top can damage the blade when you re-spin.
  • Return to freezer. Pop the lid back on and freeze for at least 4 hours, or until solid again.
  • Re-spin to enjoy. When you’re ready for round two, run under hot water 60 seconds, then hit Lite Ice Cream and Re-spin as needed. It’ll be just as creamy as the first time.

Stored properly, your leftovers stay good in the Ninja Creami pint for up to 2 weeks in the freezer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Ninja Creami ice cream come out powdery after the first spin? This is completely normal. The first spin almost always produces a crumbly, powdery texture. Hit the Re-spin button โ€” this is where the ice cream becomes smooth and creamy. If it’s still powdery after one re-spin, hit it again. Most pints need 1-2 re-spins to hit the right texture.

Do I have to use protein powder? No. You can swap the protein powder for a Premier Protein shake or Fairlife Core Protein shake (use the full shake in place of the milk + protein powder, plus the pudding mix). You can also leave the protein powder out entirely if you just want regular vanilla ice cream โ€” though you’ll lose the high-protein benefit.

Can I make this dairy-free or vegan? Yes. Use coconut milk or oat milk for the base, a plant-based vanilla protein powder, and a vegan instant pudding mix. The texture is slightly less creamy than the dairy version but still really good.

Notes

I used PEScience Gourmet Vanilla protein powder in this recipe. Can use my code BAILEY at checkout to save money on all products.
You can use Fairlife skim milk in this recipe instead. Keep in mind the higher in fat the milk = richer, smoother, dreamier ice cream.
You don't necessarily have to wait the full 24 hours of freezing time. Yes, waiting the full 24 hours will give you the best, most consistent results. But if you only froze it for 12-16 hours and youโ€™re desperate for a frozen treat, youโ€™re not out of luck. Skip the respin button and instead, hit the Mix-Ins button after the Lite Ice Cream cycle. This prevents the ice cream from getting overworked and soupy, which can happen when the base hasnโ€™t fully solidified.
If your ice cream comes out powdery or crumbly after the first spin, instead of immediately reaching for the milk, try hitting the respin button first. More often than not, thatโ€™s all you need to get it creamy.
I always pre-chop or crush your mix-ins ahead of time.

Omg I prepped this last week and put it into the freezer and just made it and added smarties as a mix in and OMG!!! Itโ€™s the best Vanilla Protein Ice Cream and itโ€™s my go to now. I just used skim fair life and Enjoy! Protein Oat milk and it was so creamy. I ran it under hot water for a while so it can be a blizzard texture. I also made your chocolate peanut butter protein ice cream and it was so good and I am not a chocolate fan
