SIMPLE INGREDIENTS YOU NEED FOR THE CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM
You will need the full ingredient list below to make the homemade ice cream (the exact measurements, nutritional information and full recipe are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of this post):
- Fairlife chocolate milk – alternatively you can use a chocolate protein shake and omit the chocolate protein powder. For a less rich chocolate flavor you can add some whole milk or even skim milk to lower the calories slightly.
- Unsweetened almond milk – alternative unsweetened nut milk such as cashew milk, coconut milk, soy milk, etc.
- Sugar-free chocolate pudding mix – the instant pudding mix is used to make the ice cream thick and creamy. Can also use guar gum or xanthan gum.
- Chocolate protein powder – chocolate whey protein or chocolate plant-based protein powder also works great
- Sea salt
- Mini marshmallows – can use sugar-free marshmallows
- Crunchy almonds
- Optional – dark chocolate chips, vanilla extract, maple syrup, heavy cream, chocolate syrup, unsweetened cocoa powder, dark cocoa powder, nut butter, etc.
HOW TO MAKE
- Add the chocolate milk, almond milk, pudding mix, chocolate protein powder and salt to the ninja creami pint container up to the max fill line and mix well with hand held frother.
- Freeze container for 24 hours until frozen solid.
- Remove frozen pint, run under hot water for 60 seconds and install into your machine.
- For the first spin, press lite Ice Cream button. Remove the outer bowl lid. If ice cream is still powdery, then add back to machine and press respin button.
- Check ice cream. The final product should be creamy and have a smooth texture. If your desired consistency isn’t reached you can add a bit more liquid and spin again on the respin setting.
- Make a small hole in the center of the ice cream and add your mini marshmallows and crunchy almonds. Mix again using the “mix-in” button. Enjoy!
TIPS AND TRICKS FOR BEST RESULTS
- Taste Before Freezing: Adjust the sweetness by tasting the mixture before freezing. Add more monk fruit sweetener if needed.
- Freeze Completely: Make sure the mixture is completely frozen for at least 24 hours before processing in the Ninja Creami.
- Use Fresh Marshmallows and Almonds: Stir in fresh mini marshmallows and chopped almonds just before the final mix-in step for the best texture.
- Reprocess if Needed: If the ice cream is too hard after the first run, use the “Re-Spin” function on the Ninja Creami for a softer consistency.
- Storage: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the freezer. Reprocess in the Ninja Creami before serving again to restore the creamy texture.
- Customize Mix-Ins: Feel free to add other mix-ins like chocolate chips, coconut flakes, or a swirl of peanut butter for variety.
FAQS
HOW DOES THE NINJA CREAMI DIFFER FROM A TRADITIONAL ICE CREAM MAKER?
The Ninja Creami differs significantly from traditional ice cream makers as it doesn’t require pre-freezing the bowl and can churn ice cream from a frozen pint of the base mixture you prepare the next day. This means you can go from prep to eating with minimal effort and waiting time.
WHAT ARE THE BEST MILKS TO USE FOR MAKING LOW SUGAR ICE CREAM IN THE NINJA CREAMI?
For low sugar options, the best milks are those with naturally lower sugar content like unsweetened almond milk, coconut milk, or heavy cream. These options help keep your ice cream low in carbs while still ensuring a creamy texture.
HOW DO I GET MORE OF A SOFT-SERVE CONSISTENCY FOR THIS CREAMY TREAT?
After spinning using the Lite Ice Cream function, add more milk to the ninja creami pint and spin again on re-spin setting. Adding the additional liquid will yield more soft-serve results vs thick ice cream.
ARE DAIRY PRODUCTS NECESSARY FOR THIS ROCKY ROAD RECIPE?
Dairy products like Chocolate Fairlife milk provide a creamy texture and protein. You can substitute with non-dairy alternatives like almond or soy milk, but the texture and protein content may vary.
WILL THIS PROTEIN ICE CREAM ACTUALLY SATISFY MY SWEET TOOTH?
Yes, this Rocky Road Protein Ice Cream will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth! It’s rich, creamy, and packed with chocolate flavor.
