HOW TO MAKE

  1. Crush the gluten-free Oreo cookies into fine crumbs using a food processor or by placing them in a sealed plastic bag and crushing them with a rolling pin. Remove 1/4 cup of cookie crumbs for the topping.
  2. Add the softened cream cheese to the crumbs and pulse until combined.
  3. Scoop out mixture using a small cookie scoop and roll into a ball (about the size of a golf ball). Smooth it out and place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Melt the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second increments until fully melted.
  5. Place the cookie dough balls into a fork and lower into the melted chocolate. Tap the fork onto the bowl to let excess chocolate drip off. Transfer back to cookie sheet and add cookie crumbles on top of the truffles immediately.
  6. Repeat until all the balls have been dipped. If the chocolate begins to thicken up, add back to microwave for 15 seconds so it’s easier to use.
  7. Allow balls to sit at room temperature until they are solid. Enjoy!

STORAGE

Storing your Gluten-Free Oreo Balls properly is key to maintaining their freshness and flavor. Here’s a simple guide to ensure your delightful treats stay delicious for as long as possible:

  1. Refrigeration: Due to the cream cheese content in the recipe, it’s advisable to store your gluten-free Oreo cake balls in the refrigerator. Place them in an airtight container, separating layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Avoid Moisture: Moisture is the enemy of cake balls, as it can lead to a soggy texture. Ensure your container is moisture-resistant, and consider placing a silica gel packet inside to absorb any excess moisture.
  3. Freezing (Optional): If you want to extend the shelf life, these cake balls are freezer-friendly. Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Once frozen, transfer them to an airtight container or a zip-top freezer bag. Thaw in the refrigerator before serving.
  4. Individual Wrapping: If you plan to store them for an extended period or want to give them as gifts, consider individually wrapping each cake ball in plastic wrap before placing them in the container. This helps prevent them from sticking together and preserves their individual shapes.
  5. Keep Them Cool: If you’re transporting the cake balls or placing them on a dessert table, try to keep them in a cool area away from direct sunlight or heat sources. This prevents the chocolate coating from melting.
  6. Consume Within a Week: For the best taste and texture, aim to consume your gluten-free Oreo cake balls within a week of preparation. The freshness of the cake and the creaminess of the filling are at their peak during this time.
