WHY THESE ARE THE PERFECT HALLOWEEN TREAT

Apples, nature’s candies, provide the perfect base for your Halloween-themed treat. They offer a satisfying crunch and a hint of tartness that pairs beautifully with the sweetness of chocolate.

Plus, apples are rich in vitamins and fiber, making them a healthier option compared to other Halloween candies. By dipping them in chocolate, you’re giving a nutritious fruit a fun and indulgent twist.

INGREDIENTS YOU NEED FOR THE CHOCOLATE HALLOWEEN APPLES

You will need the following ingredients listed below to make the halloween candy apples (the exact measurements, nutrition facts and full recipe are in the printable recipe card at the bottom of the post):

  • Large apples (choose your favorite variety) – some of my favorite apples are granny smith apples, fuji apples, gala apples, pink lady apples or honeycrisp apples.
  • Orange or black candy melts – can also use dark chocolate chips, milk chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, or white chocolate chips mixed with coconut oil.
  • Sprinkles and eyeballs or toppings of your choice (e.g., chopped nuts, creamy peanut butter, caramel drizzle, chocolate wafers, coconut flakes, sea salt, crushed cookies)
  • Lollipop sticks, popsicle sticks or skewers.

HOW TO MAKE

  1. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Use a sharp knife or an apple corer to cut the apples into slices, removing the seeds and core. You can choose to keep the apple peel on for extra color and nutrition.
  2. Melt the candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler. Be sure to follow the instructions to prevent overheating the chocolate.
  3. Insert lollipop stick or popsicle stick into the bottom of each apple slice. Make sure they are securely in place.
  4. Dip apples into the melted chocolate, allowing any excess to drip off.
  5. Before the chocolate hardens, quickly sprinkle on your choice of Halloween-themed toppings. Get creative with your designs, from mummies with drizzled white chocolate to bats made from dark chocolate.
  6. Place the apples on wax paper, parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to allow candy coating to cool and harden. This should take about 30 minutes. Can also add to refrigerator to speed up the process.

CREATIVE DECORATING IDEAS

Now, let’s get into the Halloween spirit and explore some creative decorating ideas for your chocolate-covered apples:

  1. Monster Apples: Use mini marshmallows as eyes and candy corn as teeth to turn your apples into delightful monsters.
  2. Spider Apples: Pipe on chocolate spiderwebs and add chocolate spider-shaped candies for a creepy-crawly effect.
  3. Mummy Apples: Drizzle melted white chocolate over your apples in a crisscross pattern to create the look of mummy bandages. Can use white candy melts or white chocolate chips.
  4. Jack-O’-Lantern Apples: Use orange-colored chocolate and pipe on black chocolate to make the classic Jack-O’-Lantern faces.
  5. Haunted Forest Apples: Crush up chocolate cookies and stick them to the chocolate-covered apple to create a haunted forest effect.

STORAGE

To store your Halloween Chocolate-Covered Apples, place them in an airtight container or wrap them individually in plastic wrap. Keep them in the refrigerator to prevent the chocolate from melting, and they should stay fresh for up to 5-7 days.
