Chocolate Protein Pudding Recipe (2 Ingredients, 2 Minutes)

This chocolate protein pudding is made with just a chocolate protein shake and sugar-free Jello pudding mix โ€” blended smooth, thick, and creamy in 2 minutes with 15 grams of protein and zero cooking required.

Store-bought protein pudding cups cost $3 each, come in a tub the size of a hockey puck, and taste like someone described chocolate to a robot. There is a better way.

This 2-ingredient chocolate protein pudding takes literally 2 minutes. You blend a chocolate protein shake with a packet of sugar-free Jello pudding mix and that’s it.

No Greek yogurt, no protein powder, no measuring 47 separate things. The pudding mix thickens the shake into a genuinely creamy, chocolatey dessert that tastes like the real thing and has 15 grams of protein per serving.

I’ve made this for meal prep, post-workout snacks, and the 10pm “I need chocolate immediately” emergency. It handles all three situations with grace.

Ingredients You’ll Need

(Full measurements are in the recipe card below.)

  • Chocolate protein shake โ€” Premier Protein Chocolate is the gold standard for this recipe. It’s thick, high protein, and blends into a pudding consistency perfectly. Other chocolate protein shakes work too โ€” just make sure it’s a ready-to-drink shake (not a powder mixed with water) and that you like how it tastes on its own. The shake is doing double duty here: it’s the liquid AND the protein source.
  • Sugar-free chocolate Jello instant pudding mix โ€” the instant variety, not cook-and-serve. This is the thickening agent. Sugar-free keeps the calories and sugar low, but regular instant pudding mix works identically if that’s what you have. Don’t prepare the pudding mix according to the box instructions โ€” just use the powder directly.

How to Make Chocolate Protein Pudding

  1. Combine. Pour the chocolate protein shake into a blender. Add the sugar-free instant pudding mix powder directly into the blender โ€” don’t mix it with water or milk first.
  2. Blend. Blend on high for 30โ€“60 seconds until completely smooth, thick, and creamy. Alternatively, whisk vigorously in a bowl for 1โ€“2 minutes until no lumps remain.
  3. Set. Pour into glasses or jars. The pudding will be ready to eat immediately but thickens further after 15โ€“20 minutes in the fridge. For a firmer, more traditional pudding texture, refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Top and serve. Add your toppings of choice and enjoy.

Consistency tips: If the pudding comes out too thick, add a small splash more of the protein shake and blend again. If it comes out too thin, add a small amount of extra pudding powder (1 teaspoon at a time) and blend again. The consistency varies slightly between protein shake brands โ€” Premier Protein gives the thickest result consistently.

Use the pudding mix powder directly. Don’t follow the box instructions โ€” they tell you to mix the powder with 2 cups of cold milk. Ignore that. Just add the dry powder to the shake and blend. Using the shake as the only liquid is what gives this its protein and thick pudding consistency.

Blend, don’t just stir. A blender gives you a much smoother, creamier result than stirring by hand. If you don’t have a blender, use an electric hand mixer or whisk very vigorously โ€” you need to break up any lumps in the pudding mix completely.

Flavor Variations

  1. Vanilla โ€” use a vanilla protein shake and sugar-free vanilla Jello pudding mix instead.
  2. Peanut butter chocolate โ€” use the chocolate shake and pudding mix, then stir in 1 tablespoon of peanut butter after blending. Or use a peanut butter chocolate protein shake.
  3. Butterscotch โ€” use a vanilla protein shake with sugar-free butterscotch pudding mix. Tastes like dessert at a steakhouse, somehow.
  4. Banana cream โ€” use a vanilla protein shake with sugar-free banana cream pudding mix. Add sliced banana on top for a full banana pudding situation.
  5. Mint chocolate โ€” use the chocolate shake with chocolate pudding mix and add a tiny drop of peppermint extract before blending.
  6. Cheesecake โ€” vanilla shake with sugar-free cheesecake Jello pudding mix and a dollop of light cream cheese blended in. Rich and genuinely impressive.

Toppings to Try

The pudding is great plain, but even better with something on top:

  • Mini chocolate chips or dark chocolate shavings
  • Fresh berries โ€” strawberries and raspberries cut through the richness perfectly
  • A drizzle of almond butter or peanut butter
  • Crushed graham crackers or protein granola for crunch
  • Whipped cream and a dusting of cocoa powder for a fancy presentation

Store in an airtight container or covered glass in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The pudding thickens further as it sits in the fridge โ€” if it gets too thick after storing, add a tiny splash of protein shake or almond milk and stir to loosen it up.
