Blueberry Cheesecake Overnight Oats (High Protein, Make-Ahead Breakfast)

These blueberry cheesecake overnight oats taste like the dessert version of breakfast โ€” creamy cream cheese yogurt layer, jammy blueberry compote, and 28+ grams of protein per jar.

Blueberry cheesecake overnight oats are cold soaked oats layered with a cream cheese greek yogurt topping and a quick blueberry compote โ€” a make-ahead breakfast that tastes like cheesecake and has around 28 grams of protein per jar. Prep time is 10 minutes, and they set in the fridge in 4 hours (overnight is better).

I’ve made these on rotation for years (they’re one of my most-saved recipes on Pinterest), and the cream cheese in the topping is what does the magic. Without it, you’ve got nice blueberry oats. With it, you’ve got actual cheesecake-for-breakfast energy.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • 28+ grams of protein per jar โ€” from greek yogurt, protein powder, and milk
  • Tastes like dessert, eats like breakfast โ€” cream cheese tang, jammy blueberries, the whole vibe
  • 10 minutes of prep โ€” front-load the work, breakfast handles itself
  • Meal prep friendly โ€” make 3โ€“4 jars Sunday night and you’re set through Thursday

Ingredients You’ll Need

(Exact measurements are in the recipe card below. These are notes only.)

For the oat base:

  • Rolled oats โ€” old-fashioned or quick rolled. Skip steel-cut (too chewy) and skip instant (turn to mush).
  • Almond milk โ€” neutral and lets the cheesecake flavor lead. Any milk works; dairy milk adds more protein.
  • Chia seeds โ€” they thicken the oats and add fiber. Don’t skip or you’ll get soupy oats.
  • Vanilla protein powder โ€” does the bulk of the flavor work. I use PEScience Gourmet Vanilla (code BAILEY for a discount).
  • Fresh blueberries โ€” a small handful mixed into the base. Frozen works too.

Blueberry compote layer:

  • Blueberries โ€” microwave them straight into jam. Fresh or frozen, both work. Frozen actually breaks down faster.

For the cream cheese cheesecake layer:

  • Plain greek yogurt โ€” the protein backbone of the topping. Plant-based works but the texture will be looser.
  • Light cream cheese โ€” non-negotiable for actual cheesecake flavor. Regular or light, your call.
  • White chocolate chips (optional) โ€” adds sweetness and richness. Skip them for a lower-sugar version and add a teaspoon of maple syrup instead.

Optional add-ins: lemon zest (lifts the whole thing), a teaspoon of vanilla extract, crushed graham crackers on top right before eating.

How to Make Blueberry Cheesecake Overnight Oats

  1. Mix the oat base. In a jar or bowl, stir together oats, chia seeds, protein powder, almond milk, and a handful of blueberries. Refrigerate while you make the other layers.
  2. Make the blueberry compote. In a small ramekin, microwave blueberries for 60โ€“90 seconds until they burst and turn jammy. Set aside.
  3. Make the cheesecake layer. If using white chocolate, microwave it in 30-second intervals until melted. Whisk together yogurt, cream cheese, and melted white chocolate until smooth (a wire whisk gets rid of clumps fastest).
  4. Layer it. Pull the oats out of the fridge. Spoon the blueberry compote over the oats, then add the cream cheese yogurt layer on top. Swirl gently with a spoon to get streaks of purple coming through.
  5. Chill. Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours (overnight is better).
  6. Top and eat. In the morning, add fresh blueberries and crushed graham crackers if you want the full cheesecake experience.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Dairy-free: Swap greek yogurt for thick coconut yogurt and use vegan cream cheese.
  • Higher protein: Use dairy milk or soy milk instead of almond, and bump the protein powder to a full scoop.
  • Lower sugar: Skip the white chocolate and use a sugar-free vanilla protein powder.
  • Gluten-free: Use certified gluten-free oats. Skip the graham crackers on top or use gluten-free ones.
  • Lemon blueberry: Add ยฝ teaspoon lemon zest to the cream cheese layer. Brightens everything up.
  • Strawberry version: Swap blueberries for fresh strawberries โ€” use my Strawberry Cheesecake Overnight Oats recipe instead.

Storage and Make-Ahead

These oats keep for 4โ€“5 days in an airtight container in the fridge. Texture is best on days 1โ€“3. Add the fresh blueberries and graham crackers right before eating so they stay fresh and crunchy.

You can freeze the assembled oats (without graham crackers) for up to 1 month. Thaw in the fridge overnight, give it a stir, and add fresh toppings before serving.

FAQs

How much protein is in blueberry cheesecake overnight oats? This recipe has about 28 grams of protein per jar โ€” coming from greek yogurt, vanilla protein powder, and cream cheese. Using dairy milk instead of almond milk adds another 4โ€“6 grams.

Can you use frozen blueberries in overnight oats? Yes, frozen blueberries work great. They actually break down faster when you make the compote in the microwave, so they’re easier than fresh for the bottom layer. Use fresh for the topping if you want them to hold their shape.

How long do blueberry overnight oats last in the fridge? 4โ€“5 days in an airtight container. They’ll soften the longer they sit, so they’re best on days 1โ€“3. Add fresh blueberries and graham crackers right before eating to keep them crisp.

Do blueberry overnight oats actually taste like cheesecake? Yes, when made with cream cheese and greek yogurt in the topping. The cream cheese is what gives the tangy cheesecake flavor โ€” without it you get blueberry yogurt oats, which are good but not cheesecake-good.
