SIMPLE INGREDIENTS YOU NEED FOR THIS HIGH PROTEIN TACO RECIPE

You will need the following ingredients listed below to make the smash burger taco recipe (the exact measurements, nutritional information and full recipe are in the recipe card at the bottom of the post):

  • Ground Chicken – The juicy, seasoned base that smashes perfectly onto the tortilla.
  • Flour Tortillas – Small, soft flour tortillas crisp up beautifully in the pan.
  • McChicken Sauce – A mix of light mayo, Miracle Whip, mustard, and garlic powder for that signature creamy, tangy flavor.
  • Shredded Iceberg Lettuce – Because no McChicken is complete without it.
  • Garlic Powder & Black Pepper – Adds that perfect McChicken-style seasoning to the chicken.
  • Olive Oil or Butter – Helps the tortilla get golden and crispy in the pan.
  • Breadcrumbs – can use Rice Krispies or corn flakes blended up as well.
  • Optional – onion powder, slice of american cheese, other fresh veggies, etc.

HOW TO MAKE THE MCCHICKEN SMASH TACOS RECIPE

  1. Make the McChicken Sauce – In a small bowl, mix 1/4 cup light mayo and 1/4 cup Miracle Whip until smooth. Set aside.

  2. Season & Shape the Chicken – In a medium bowl, mix ground chicken with garlic powder, black pepper, and a pinch of salt.

  3. Smash It Onto the Tortillas – Press a thin layer of seasoned chicken onto the back of each flour tortilla, making sure it covers the surface evenly. Then add on the breadcrumbs for that crunch factor.

  4. Crisp It Up – Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with a little olive oil. Place the tortilla chicken-side down and cook for 3-4 minutes until the chicken is golden and fully cooked. Flip and crisp up the tortilla side for another 1-2 minutes.

  5. Assemble the Tacos – Spread a generous amount of McChicken sauce over the crispy chicken, top with shredded lettuce, and get ready for the best bite of your life.

  6. Serve & Enjoy – Fold it up like a taco, take a bite, and wonder why you ever settled for drive-thru fast food.

STORING LEFTOVER EASY SMASH TACOS

Refrigerate for Up to 3 Days – Store leftover cooked smash tacos in an airtight container in the fridge. For best results, store the chicken and tortillas separately so they don’t get soggy.

Reheat for the Best Crisp – Skip the microwave! For crispy tacos, reheat in a skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes per side, or pop them in the air fryer at 375°F for 3-5 minutes.

Keep the Toppings Fresh – Store shredded lettuce and McChicken sauce separately and add them fresh just before serving.

Avoid Freezing Assembled Tacos – While the cooked chicken mixture can be frozen for up to 3 months, tortillas tend to lose their crisp after freezing. If freezing, store the chicken mixture separately and smash it onto fresh tortillas when ready to eat.

Make-Ahead Tip – Prepare the McChicken sauce and seasoned chicken in advance so all you have to do is smash, cook, and assemble for a quick, crispy meal anytime.

TIPS AND TRICKS FOR BEST RESULTS

  • Smash the Chicken Evenly – Spread a thin, even layer of ground chicken on the back of the tortilla to ensure it cooks evenly and gets crispy.

  • Use Small Flour Tortillas – Flour tortillas crisp up the best in the pan, giving you that perfect golden crunch.

  • Let the Pan Get Hot First – A hot skillet = crispier tacos. Heat the pan before placing the tacos to get that beautiful golden-brown crust.

  • Press the Chicken Down While Cooking – Use a spatula or burger press to keep full contact with the pan for even crisping.

  • Don’t Flip Too Early – Let the chicken fully cook and form a crust (about 3-4 minutes) before flipping. This helps it stay together.

  • Go Heavy on the McChicken Sauce – The mayo-Miracle Whip-mustard combo is the secret sauce that makes this taste just like a real McChicken—don’t skimp on it!

  • Add the Lettuce at the End – To keep the lettuce crisp and fresh, add it just before serving instead of while the taco is still hot.

  • Reheat Like a Pro – Skip the microwave! For crispy leftovers, reheat in a hot skillet or air fryer at 375°F for 3-5 minutes.

  • Customize It Your Way – Love spice? Add hot sauce or crushed red pepper. Want extra crunch? Sprinkle on some crushed croutons or parmesan.

  • Make It Meal-Prep Friendly – Prep the chicken mixture and McChicken sauce ahead of time, then just smash and cook when you’re ready to eat.
