SIMPLE INGREDIENTS YOU NEED FOR THIS EASY CAKE MIX RECIPE

You will need the following ingredients listed below to make the world cinnamon flavor cake pops (the exact measurements, nutrition information and full recipe are in the printable recipe card below):

  • Box of cake mix: Yep, we’re going for the easy route here. Betty Crocker Cinnamon Toast Crunch cake mix works best, but white cake can also be used if you have the Cinnamon Toast Crunch frosting.
  • Frosting: This is the glue that holds our cake pops together. Cream cheese frosting or vanilla frosting are preferred. If you can find Cinnamon Toast Crunch frosting that would also work great.
  • White candy melts: This will be our candy coating, and trust me, it’s where the magic happens. Can also use melted almond bark.
  • Lollipop stick/cake pop stick: Because what’s a cake pop without a stick?
  • Cinnamon Crunch Cereal: To add to the tops of the cake pops for festive fun.

HOW TO MAKE

Start by preparing your cake batter by package directions. Beat cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs in a medium bowl on medium-high speed.

Pour the batter into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish or two 8×8-inch round cake dishes and bake in a 350 degree F oven until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Let the cake cool completely, then crumble it with a fork in a large bowl or in the baking dish. Stir the frosting into the crumbled cake, cover with plastic wrap, and freeze until chilled.

Use a cookie scoop and your hands to roll the mixture into evenly sized small balls and place on large baking sheet. You want to try make them all a consistent size – aim for the size of a ping pong ball.

Freeze again until balls are hard.

Once they have been frozen, I give them another little roll to smooth out the sides. Then place on a cookie sheet.

Melt candy melts in the microwave in 30-second intervals or in a double boiler. Dip lollipop sticks into the melted chocolate, then stick into one of the frozen cake balls.

Do this with all of them and put back in freezer till they are solidified.

Gently dip balls into the melted chocolate or spoon the chocolate onto balls and twirl to coat, letting the excess chocolate drizzle off onto parchment paper. Decorate with crushed up Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal.

Place them upright in a styrofoam block, or a cardboard box to harden to 2-3 minutes. There you have it, you have easy treats for your next sweet celebrations.

STORING THE LEFTOVER CINNAMON TOAST CRUNCH CAKE POPS

In the Fridge:

  1. Airtight is Right: Pop those cake pops in an airtight container. This keeps them from absorbing any odd fridge smells and maintains their freshness.
  2. Keep it Cool: The fridge is perfect for short-term storage. They’ll stay delicious for up to a week (if they last that long without being gobbled up!).

In the Freezer:

  1. Wrap ‘Em Up: If you’re thinking longer-term, wrap each cake pop individually in plastic wrap or place them in a single layer in a freezer-safe bag. This step is crucial to avoid freezer burn and keep them tasting like they were just made.
  2. Freeze and Forget (Well, Don’t Forget): Stored this way, your cake pops can last for up to a month. Just remember to let them thaw a bit before enjoying, unless you’re into the whole frozen treat vibe.

Quick Tips:

  • Sticks and All: No need to remove the sticks before storing; they make for easy handling when you’re ready to dive back in.
  • Label Love: If you’re a baking enthusiast and your freezer is a treasure trove of treats, slap a label on those cake pops with the date you made them. It helps keep track of freshness.

TIPS AND TRICKS FOR BEST RESULTS

1. Cake Consistency is Key

  • Just Moist Enough: Aim for a cake mixture that’s moist enough to hold together but not so wet it falls apart. Think playdough, not mud. Adding frosting gradually is your best bet to hitting that sweet spot.

2. Chill Before You Dip

  • Fridge First: Pop those formed balls into the fridge for a bit before you dip them. This firmness will be your ally when dealing with warm candy melts.

3. Dip Like a Pro

  • Stick First: Dip the tip of your stick into the candy melt before inserting it into the cake ball. It acts like glue, keeping everything together when you go for the full dip.
  • Smooth Moves: To get that perfectly smooth coating, tap off the excess gently and rotate the pop to let the candy set evenly.

4. Embrace the Crunch

  • Top Timing: Sprinkle the crushed Cinnamon Toast Crunch on top while the candy melt is still wet. It’s all about that texture, so don’t be shy.

5. Set Up for Success

  • Stand By: Have a stand ready for your freshly dipped pops. A piece of styrofoam or a cake pop stand will do the trick, keeping them upright while they set.

6. Storage Smarts

  • Keep Cool: If you’re not serving immediately, store them in an airtight container in the fridge. They’ll keep nicely and be ready to wow at a moment’s notice.

FAQS

CAN I USE CEREAL MILK INSTEAD OF WATER OR REGULAR MILK IN THIS RECIPE?

Absolutely! Using cereal milk, especially from your favorite breakfast cereal, can infuse your baked goods with the iconic taste of those cherished morning moments.

Just soak the cereal in the milk, strain, and use it in place of regular milk for an easy baking twist that adds a whole new flavor dimension.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN USING DRY CAKE MIX AND HOME-BAKED CAKE FROM SCRATCH?

Dry cake mixes offer convenient meal options for those looking to enjoy the home-baked cake experience without the hassle of measuring out ingredients like wheat flour, corn syrup, and folic acid. However, baking from scratch allows for customization and can avoid certain additives like propylene glycol mono and dicalcium phosphate found in some tasty dessert mixes.

CAN I USE CAKE CRUMBS TO TOP THE CAKE POPS INSTEAD OF CRUSHED CEREAL?

Yes, absolutely! Before mixing the frosting in with the cooked cake, use a fork to crumble the cake into fine crumbs. You can set these aside until you are decorating.

Alternatively, you can also use sprinkles if desired.
