Viral Blanket Dumplings

You know those recipes that feel like they should be complicatedโ€ฆ but somehow arenโ€™t? Yeah, this is one of those.

These viral blanket dumplings have been all over my feed, and after testing them (multiple timesโ€ฆ for research obviously), I get the hype.

Theyโ€™re juicy, crispy, packed with flavour, and come together way easier than youโ€™d expect.

Also โ€” weโ€™re not sitting here folding 100 perfect dumplings like weโ€™re on a cooking show. This is a realistic, weeknight, โ€œI want something insanely good without the effortโ€ situation.

One pan, simple ingredients, and that crispy-bottom, steamy-top combo that makes them taste like you ordered takeout but didnโ€™t spend $40. Honestlyโ€ฆ dangerous.

Simple Ingredients You Need For The Viral One Pan Dumplings

You will need the following ingredients listed below to make the dumpling recipe (the exact measurements and detailed instructions are in the recipe card at the bottom of the post):

  • For the dumplings:
  • Ground chicken (lean and high protein, you can swap for turkey or pork)
  • Green onions (adds freshness and bite)
  • Garlic (fresh minced = best flavour)
  • Carrot (finely grated for subtle sweetness and moisture)
  • Ginger powder (or fresh if you have it)
  • Black pepper
  • Salt
  • Rice vinegar (adds that tangy balance)
  • Sesame oil (key for that classic dumpling flavour)
  • Soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free option)
  • Sriracha (adjust based on spice tolerance)
  • Wonton wrappers (store-bought = lifesaver)

  • Dipping sauce:
  • Soy sauce
  • Rice vinegar
  • Chili onion crunch (adds texture + heat)
  • Optional sriracha

  • Optional toppings:
  • Green onions
  • Chili onion crunch
  • Sesame seeds

How To Make

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, green onions, garlic, grated carrot, ginger powder, black pepper, salt, rice vinegar, sesame oil, soy sauce, and sriracha. Mix until fully combined.
  2. Heat a large pan over medium heat and lightly oil it. Scoop a small ice cream scoop-sized portion of the chicken mixture and place it directly into the pan. Repeat, spacing them slightly apart.
  3. Place a wonton wrapper over each portion and gently press it around the chicken to wrap and shape it.
  4. Pour about 1/3 cup of water into the pan, cover with a lid, and let cook for 5โ€“7 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked through.
  5. Remove the lid and allow any excess water to evaporate. Let the bottoms crisp up slightly if desired.
  6. Serve immediately with dipping sauce and your favourite toppings.

Tips And Tricks For Best Results

  • Donโ€™t make the chicken scoops too big or they wonโ€™t cook evenly
  • Press the wonton wrapper gently โ€” you want it to stick, not tear
  • Keep the heat at medium so the bottoms donโ€™t burn before the inside cooks
  • If thereโ€™s still water left after cooking, just remove the lid and let it cook off
  • Want extra crisp? Let them sit for another minute or two at the end

Storing Leftover Blanket Dumplings

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Reheat in a pan for the best texture โ€” theyโ€™ll crisp back up way better than in the microwave.

You can also freeze them after cooking. Reheat straight from frozen in a pan with a splash of water and a lid.

Faqs

Can I use a different protein?
Yes. Ground turkey or pork both work great here.

Do I have to use wonton wrappers?
Theyโ€™re key for the texture, but you could try rice paper for a different vibe.

How do I know theyโ€™re cooked through?
The chicken should be fully white inside with no pink, and the juices should run clear.

Can I prep these ahead of time?
You can mix the filling in advance and keep it in the fridge. Cook fresh for best results.
