WHAT IS A NINJA CREAMI MACHINE?
A Ninja Creami is a specialized kitchen appliance designed for making homemade frozen treats like ice cream, sorbet, and gelato. It is a compact and versatile machine that uses powerful blending and freezing technology to transform ingredients into creamy, frozen desserts in a matter of minutes.
The Ninja Creami ice cream maker typically consists of a base unit with a motor, a blending pitcher or bowl, and a freezing chamber. It operates by combining frozen ingredients, such as fruits or ice cream bases, with other flavorings or mix-ins to create smooth and creamy frozen treats. The blending pitcher or bowl sits atop the freezing chamber, which contains a cooling element that rapidly freezes the mixture while it is being blended.
The key feature of the Ninja Creami is its ability to create creamy and indulgent frozen desserts without the need for preservatives, artificial flavors, or excessive added sugars. This allows users to have full control over the ingredients, making it a popular choice for individuals with specific dietary preferences or restrictions, such as vegans or those following a gluten-free or dairy-free diet.
The Ninja Creami offers various speed and blending options, allowing users to customize the texture and consistency of their frozen treats. It also often comes with recipe ideas and inspiration to help users explore a wide range of flavors and combinations.
With the Ninja Creami, you can enjoy the freedom of making your own healthy and delicious frozen desserts right in your own kitchen, giving you the opportunity to experiment with flavors, control the sweetness level, and create treats that cater to your taste preferences. It’s a fantastic appliance for anyone who loves frozen desserts and wants to unleash their creativity in the kitchen.
INGREDIENTS YOU WILL NEED FOR THE PROTEIN ICE CREAM RECIPE
You will need the following ingredients listed below to make the creamy ice cream (the exact measurements, step-by-step instructions and full recipe are in the recipe card at the bottom of this post):
- Fairlife skim milk – can use milk of choice, however this one contains 14 g protein per serving.
- Unsweetened almond milk – can use nut milk of choice here.
- Cookies and cream protein powder – I love PEScience whey protein powder with chunks of cookie in there. Perfect to add some extra protein.
- Vanilla Jello pudding mix
- Oreo thins
- Optional – chocolate chips, fairlife shakes, cocoa powder, premier protein shake, etc.
HOW TO MAKE
- Add all ingredients except oreo thins to the ninja creami container up to the max fill line and mix well with hand help frother.
- Freeze container for 24 hours until frozen solid.
- Remove frozen pint and install into your machine. It’s important that your pint has a level surface, otherwise it can damage the blade.
- For the first spin, press Ice Cream button. Remove the outer bowl lid and make a small hole in the middle of the pint. Add 2-3 tbsp more almond milk to the center of the hole.
- Add back to machine, and press respin button.
- Check ice cream. The final product should be creamy and have a smooth texture. If your desired consistency isn’t reached you can add a bit more liquid and spin again on the respin setting.
- Once reached, make another small hole and add oreo thins. Spin once more on mix in setting and enjoy!
TIPS AND VARIATIONS
- If you don’t have cookies and cream protein powder, you can use vanilla protein powder and add additional crushed chocolate sandwich cookies to mimic the classic cookies and cream flavor.
- For an extra indulgent touch on this ninja creami protein ice cream, drizzle some melted dark chocolate before freezing.
- Experiment with different types of cookies to create unique flavor combinations. Try mint chocolate cookies or gluten-free cookies for a twist!
- If you prefer a softer consistency, let the ice cream sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.
HOW DOES THE NINJA CREAMI DIFFER FROM A TRADITIONAL ICE CREAM MAKER OR REGULAR BLENDER?
The Ninja Creami combines the functions of a blender and an ice cream maker into one appliance. It has a freezing chamber that rapidly freezes the ingredients while they are being blended, resulting in creamy frozen treats.
Regular blenders may not have the freezing capability, while traditional ice cream makers typically require pre-freezing of the bowl or use of ice and salt.
CAN I USE A DIFFERENT TYPE OF MILK?
Absolutely! You can use any plant-based milk of your choice, such as soy milk, oat milk, or coconut milk.
CAN I MAKE NON-DAIRY OR VEGAN FROZEN DESSERTS WITH THE NINJA CREAMI?
Yes, the Ninja Creami is perfect for making non-dairy or vegan frozen desserts. You can use ingredients like coconut milk, almond milk, or other plant-based alternatives as a base for your creations.
There are also many recipes available specifically designed for non-dairy or vegan options.
WHY ARE MY NINJA CREAMI RECIPES TURNING OUT ICY?
If your ninja creami ice cream recipes are turning out icy there are two ingredients that will help resolve this.
The first is instant pudding mix or jello mix. Instant pudding mix contains ingredients like modified starches and gelatin, which act as thickeners. When added to the recipe, the pudding mix helps create a thicker consistency, reducing the formation of ice crystals and resulting in a smoother texture.
The second ingredient that can help is guar gum. Guar gum is a natural thickening and stabilizing agent derived from the guar bean. When added to Ninja Creami recipes, it helps increase viscosity and create a smooth and creamy texture. The thickening properties of guar gum help prevent the formation of large ice crystals, resulting in a more velvety consistency.

Hi! Thanks for sharing this recipe – curious, why are you using two types of milk? Is there any benefit to that?
Hi Sema,
I use the Fairlife skim for added protein, and the unsweetened almond milk for lower calories! Depending on your nutrition goals, you can use more or less of either, or omit one of them all together! Just my preference!! 🙂
