Banana cream pie filling, spoonable, high in protein, and ready before the craving passes. This is the dessert I make when I want something that tastes like pie but actually keeps me full, and it takes five minutes start to finish.

A high protein banana cream pie bowl is a no-bake dessert made by stirring Greek yogurt with vanilla protein powder, banana pudding mix, and vanilla, then folding in fresh banana and crushed graham crackers. The pudding mix is what gives it that thick, classic banana cream pie texture, and the Greek yogurt plus protein powder is where the protein comes from.

I keep the ingredients on hand at all times because this has become my go-to after dinner. The graham crackers stand in for the pie crust, the banana brings the natural sweetness, and the whole thing feels like a treat while landing closer to a protein shake on the macros.

Why You’ll Love This

  • Tastes like real banana cream pie, thanks to the pudding mix doing the heavy lifting on flavor and texture.
  • High in protein from Greek yogurt and protein powder, the kind of dessert that fills you up instead of leaving you hunting for more.
  • No-bake and ready in about 5 minutes, one bowl, one spoon, no oven.

Ingredients You Need

  • Plain Greek yogurt โ€” the thick, high-protein base. Use a good thick Greek yogurt so the bowl sets up creamy instead of runny. Full-fat is richer, nonfat keeps it lighter.
  • Vanilla protein powder โ€” adds protein and the vanilla cream flavor. Whey Isolate gives the smoothest, easiest to digest result. 1UP Nutrition Vanilla Ice Cream is my go-to, code BAILS saves you a bit.
  • Instant banana pudding mix โ€” the secret to that classic banana cream pie taste and the thick, set texture. A little goes a long way.
  • Sugar-free sweetener โ€” balances the tang of the yogurt. Adjust to taste.
  • Vanilla extract โ€” rounds out the flavor and leans it harder into cream-pie territory.
  • Banana โ€” fresh banana folded in for natural sweetness and real banana flavor.
  • Graham cracker โ€” crushed for that pie-crust crunch in every bite.

How to Make a High Protein Banana Cream Pie Bowl

  1. Add the Greek yogurt, protein powder, banana pudding mix, sweetener, and vanilla extract to a bowl.
  2. Stir until completely smooth and thick, about a minute. Stirring well is what gives it that mousse-like body.
  3. Fold in the chopped banana and most of the graham cracker crumbs.
  4. Top with the remaining crumbs and a few banana slices. Eat right away, or chill 5 to 10 minutes for a thicker, more pie-like set.

Tips for the Best Texture

Start with cold, thick Greek yogurt. A thin or watery yogurt makes a thin bowl, while a thick strained Greek yogurt sets up like real pie filling.

Stir vigorously for a full minute after adding the pudding mix and protein powder. The dry starches in the pudding need that time to activate and swell against the cold yogurt, and that reaction is what turns a runny bowl into a thick, scoopable cream. Cold yogurt straight from the fridge sets up best, since the starches react fastest with cold.

Give it 5 to 10 minutes in the fridge if you have the patience. It thickens as it sits and the flavors mellow into something even more pie-like.

Slice the banana thin and fold it in last so the pieces stay distinct instead of mashing into the base. A small squeeze of lemon over the banana slows browning if you’re making it ahead.

Variations to Try

Even higher protein โ€” blend in a couple tablespoons of cottage cheese with the yogurt base. It disappears into the flavor and pushes the protein and creaminess up.

Chocolate banana โ€” swap in chocolate protein powder and chocolate pudding mix for a chocolate banana cream version.

Switch the pudding โ€” vanilla or cheesecake pudding mix both work if you can’t find banana, you’ll still get that cream-pie body.

Switch the cookie โ€” Nilla wafers or Biscoff cookies in place of graham crackers change up the crust flavor.

Freeze it for soft serve โ€” pop the finished bowl in the freezer for about 45 minutes for a frozen, soft-serve texture. Don’t leave it overnight or it sets into a solid block.

How to Store

This bowl is best fresh, but it keeps in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. It actually thickens nicely overnight as the pudding sets.

The banana will brown over time, so if you’re prepping ahead, hold the fresh banana and graham crumbs and stir them in right before eating. A squeeze of lemon on the banana helps too.

For meal prep, divide everything across small jars and add the banana and crumbs fresh each day so they stay bright and crunchy.

High Protein Banana Cream Pie Bowl FAQ

Can I skip the pudding mix? You can, but it’s doing the most work here. The pudding mix is what creates the thick, classic banana cream pie texture and flavor. Without it you’ll have a banana protein yogurt bowl that’s still good, just thinner and less pie-like. Add a little extra sweetener and vanilla to make up the flavor.

What protein powder works best? A whey isolate gives the thickest, most mousse-like texture, and it’s worth being picky here. Plant-based protein works but can leave a slightly chalkier finish, so stir extra long and add a splash of milk if it gets too thick.

Why is my bowl grainy? Graininess almost always means the protein powder isn’t fully hydrated. Stir for at least a full minute so the powder and pudding fully dissolve into the yogurt. If it’s still grainy, your yogurt brand may be on the drier side, so add a small splash of milk and keep stirring until it smooths out.
